The Tree project (Transfer Renewable Energy & Efficiency) initiated by RENAC goes into its second round with a kick-off event attended by representatives from around 100 member countries. TREE is supported by the international Climate Change Initiative of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) on the basis of a decision by the German Bundestag, and has been awarded a prize in the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development.
TREE provides the knowledge and expertise required to develop the conditions and financing necessary for renewable energies and energy efficiency. The project targets and trains key international players from government, finance and project development.
Key representatives from ministries responsible for the creation of conditions furthering renewable energies and energy efficiency can apply to RENAC for a TREE seminar scholarship for a particular technology. The educational products offered under the TREE project range from seminars held in Berlin through schooling in financing and solar thermal plants in selected countries to distance study courses and publications. TREE's week-long courses discuss the legal, technical and economic aspects of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies as illustrated by their life cycle.
TREE supports the development of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) with its capacity building measures, and the project is therefore open to those developing and emerging nations who have joined IRENA. The programme also addresses MENA countries and countries which took part in the first phase of the TREE project.
Parliamentary State Secretary Katherina Reiche and RENAC CEO Berthold Breid will be available to answer questions in a press briefing on 10 March 2010 from 2.40 p.m.
At the event itself you will have access to the diplomatic representatives of the member countries, the BMU and RENAC.
