Solar energy
Type of seminar
Technology-specific advanced seminar
Target Groups
Staff from government bodies and other public authorities responsible for renewable energy and energy efficiency legislation
Course Objectives
- Although the photovoltaic (PV) industry is currently one of the fastest growing industries worldwide, closer examination reveals that this development is that substantial market growth takes place in only a few states. This advanced seminar wants to enhance the thorough understanding of this extremely promising technology in order to ease the set-up of favorable framework conditions for successful PV market deployment. It follows the life-cycle approach and explains technical aspects of PV projects and how framework conditions affect such projects either positively or negatively.
- You will be able to follow the whole process from planning a grid-connected PV system, installation over to operation and, finally, decommissioning. You will learn about common PV technologies and typical PV system configurations as well as components and their costs. You will deepen your understanding of the technology by inspecting and using our training equipment and market-ready equipment in our RENAC Training Center. Simulation with standard software and field trips to working PV systems complete the course.Apart from technology, framework conditions and financing are crucial: You will see at which stage of PV projects regulation is needed and to what extent, how governmental incentives support market introduction and what driving forces but also what barriers are in place.
- The course will further on show you how to perform an economic analysis of a PV project, and organize suitable finance. This includes an analysis of several worldwide approaches for the financial support of grid-connected PV.
Benefits
- Get all relevant technical knowledge about grid-connected PV and related projects to understand which regulation is needed and which might be unnecessary
- You will be able to assess the solar resource in your country and what this means for market introduction of PV
- Learn from the expertise of RENAC lecturers and your fellow course participants which framework conditions help PV market deployment
- Get a holistic understanding of the interaction between the solar resource, technology, frameworks and financing instruments
Course Agenda
- Introduction to PV technology and function
- The solar resource and site evaluation
- System components
- Photovoltaic project life cycle and project management steps
- Stakeholders and interested parties
- Grid connection
- Project examples
- Development of system costs and technological trends
- Economic assessment and financing options
- Legal aspects and framework conditions, barriers and driving forces

Exercises
For best understanding a technology it is crucial to use it. In this course you will have many opportunities to use the facilities of our Training Center. This includes, for instance, system simulation with the IKS Solar Trainer Professional, measuring modules, installation exercises with real components, inspection of a variety of PV module technologies as well as site inspection. Further on, you will work with standard PV system simulation software.
In addition, we will include a variety of moderated interactive training elements in which you will have the opportunity to apply the learned and to exchange with your fellow course participants.
Software and Hardware
- All components of a PV system and associated equipment in our modern
- Training Center
- IKS experimental and demonstration kits for PV
- Solar measurement equipment
- PV Software in RENAC computer lab
