Course Objectives
- After completing the course you will have gained an overview of relevant issues to be addressed when planning and implementing rural electrification processes and programs.
- The technologies, which can be used for rural electrification as well as their interaction in hybrid systems / minigrids will be integral part of the course. Due to the practical parts – “hands-on”-training with solar and wind equipment in the RENAC training centre as well as use of simulation software for hybrid systems - you will have developed a better understanding of the respective technologies´ mode of operation and applicability.
- Apart from technology there are two more crucial elements for the successful planning of rural electrification – frameworks and financing.
- In the course you will learn about various frameworks and programs from different countries, their strengths and weaknesses, best practices and lessons learned. Here you will also benefit from the experience and know-how of your fellow participants from all over the world as everybody will present a program that has been applied in her or his country of origin.
- In the financing session you will learn about CDM mechanisms, opportunities for small grants, studies and pilot projects as well as international financing institutions.
Benefits
- Learn about approaches to rural electrification from all over the world and benefit from the expertise of RENAC lecturers and your fellow course participants.
- Develop a solid understanding for the technologies applicable in theory and practice in the RENAC training centre.
- Understand the correlation of technology, frameworks and financing instruments for the successful design and implementation of a program for rural electrification.
