Course Objectives
After completing the course you will have gained an overview of relevant issues to be addressed when planning and implementing legal frameworks for grid connected renewable energy technologies.
The course offers an introduction to 3 core technologies for grid connected applications – Photovoltaics, Wind and Biogas. Here, you will gain an overview of the technological basics with a special focus on possible applications and the potential of the technologies. You will also learn about the basics of energy efficiency in industry and trade as renewable and the rational use of energy have to be complementary to build and efficient entity.
Apart from technology there are three more crucial elements for the successful planning and implementation of renewable – grid integration, frameworks and financing.
Grid integration is a big challenge as electricity networks often are designed to match the needs of centralizes conventional energy production. You will get to know about grid structure, grid codes as well as requirements and prerequisites of renewable system integration.
You will also learn about various frameworks and approaches for the support of renewable energy technologies and their market entry from different countries, their strengths and weaknesses, best practices and lessons learned. Here you will benefit from the experience and know-how of your fellow participants from all over the world as everybody will present the legal framework/political strategy for renewables applied in her or his country of origin.
In the financing session you will learn about CDM mechanisms, types of financing and funding (credits, mezzanine, grants, etc.) as well as potential sources of financing.
The course closes with a workshop on strategy planning for the design and implementation of renewable energy support programs.
